The Beauty in Interconnectedness.

Some years ago when I attempted to engage in PhD (which I gave up as practice is so much fun), I argued that the beauty of modern perception lies in interconnectedness. I am going to make my paper available online soon. Funnily enough since then I keep coming across people, philosophers, artists, designers or scientists more and more engaging in this subject. Perhaps it is a time for me to pick up on this subject. Bu

THe Human Sensor

“In a 1968 diary entry, Gerhard Richter wrote: “my landscapes are not only beautiful or nostalgic, seemingly romantic and classical like lost paradises – above all they are ‘deceptive’…they refer to the way we view nature transfigured. Nature, which in all its forms in constantly against us, because it has no meaning in mercy, no sympathy, because it knows nothing…because it is the

Breathing, Finally

I have been in Brazil many times – visiting it during all seasons. Winters were always hot (in European standards) and summer obviously even hotter. This time however, astonishingly, there was a coldest winter in 50 years, with between 11 and 14 degrees and rains. So armed in nothing more than pair of havaianas, summer dress and shorts, the 11 degrees was a nasty surprised. Brazilians all were wrapped up in fur

Meeting with Prof. Buckeridge

When in Sao Paulo I met with the ICCP board member and leading climate change and plants scientist, Prof. Marcos Buckeridge. My main question was the pollen, climate change impact on plants pollination and whether it has the same effect on Brazilians living in big cities such as Sao Paulo as on Londoners. And so Prof. Buckeridge answered that in Brazil, where plants have been always thriving, the diversity of protein

The Dutch Invention

On the theme of air, funny how some findings one another like kind of by accident but in purpose. While sitting in my studio in Rotterdam, listening to Dutch news (not that I understand anything) I have seen a shot TV spot about looking for volunteers to test the newest smartphone add on invented in Laiden University called Ispex (http://ispex.nl/en/). As explained on the website: “An increasing number of people carr

Launching World Wilder Lab and Web

In collaboration with Ivan Henriques and Erik Overmeire we launched a new collective World Wilder Lab. It came as a natural progression from interest in nature, plants and microorganisms and real time environmental data capture and its manifestation. We will be working closely with students of Leiden University to develop an affordable, open source amplifier gathering electro-physiological signals from plants. The ou

Sensing Nature – Nature Sensing

Nature and its observation – I wonder whether people living in rural areas, who are much more in-tune with the seasons, weather, environment and ever going transformation happening around them can see / notice climate change? I am planning to talk to old farmers to see what they have to say about it, whether whatever has been happening had any impact on their lives, ask whether they have adapted (if there are f

Me vs Another Side of the Planet

No doubts I will do projects about everything I am deeply interested in. Sadly, it is impossible to do all at once, so the choice must be made, things must be schedules, ideas must be placed in the notebook for a future and more research. Very recently I came across a website with the documentations about poverty and coral reefs. It states the obvious – due to the ocean acidification coral reefs are now in a st

CO2 and no spring – stating the obvious (although quite a few people didn’t know about it) – the combination of high CO2 in the air and rapid rise in temperatures, so that the spring which is a normal transition period between low temperatures of winter and high ones of summer, doesn’t exist – all of that results in violent, mad, crazy explosion of flower bud, flowers and thus pollen. Yes – th

What is going on outside my window

Within a space of 2 weeks, that is what has happened from a naked for over 6 month branches of a tree growing outside my bathroom, to explosion of buds, flower and leaves. No transition period. No luke warm temperature. Just a very very long winter and then attack of a summer. It is fascinating to do this observation, to look at the new life awakening almost in front of one eyes.
